This limited edition print shows Exchequer Gate which was built in 1350 as part of the Close Wall surrounding Lincoln Cathedral. To the left is Leigh-Pemberton House, a large black and white timber framed house built in 1543 as a merchant's house and was a bank between 1899 and 1979.
Dominating the image is Lincoln Cathedral which is the third largest in England after St Paul's and York Minster. It is the third cathedral to stand on the site, the first two were destroyed in the 12th century, the first by fire and the second by earthquake. The present cathedral was completed in the 14th century, had three spires and was the tallest man-made structure in the world at that time.
